Krishna's discourse Crux of Gita

 14 Sep 2008 01:31:48 pm

The Bhagavad Gita is one of the holiest texts in Indian literary history. The title in Sankrit means - Song of God or Song of the Divine One.

The Date of the compilation of the Gita is not known with certainty. But what we knowis that it comprises a conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna before the start of the battle of Kurukshetra.

Before the battle, Arjuna begins to doubt himself as he realises that his enemes are his own loved ones. So he turns to his charioteer and guide, Krihsna, for advice. Consisting of eighteen chapters, the Gita is a monologue given to Arjuna on the concepts of Dharna, Duty and the five basic truths - Ishvara, Jiva, Prakriti, Karma and Kala. Indeed, the battle that is about to take place is referred to by Lord Krishna as the Dharna Yuddha, which means a war foughtfor the cause of justice.

Lord Krishna being the main speaker of the Gita, he is referred to as Bhagavan (the Divine One). His philosophies and the theories that he propounded during the course of his conversation with Arjuna has led to the Gita attaining a prominenet plance in Hindu philosophy and the world. For instance, Lord Krishna says that the root of all suffering is the agitation of the mins, which is caused by selfish desire. He says that this agitation can be quelled through self-discipline.

Lord Krishna also philosophised tht abstinence from any action is extremely detrimental. One should free the mind from worldly complexities and focus on dedication to the Divine.

It is, in fact, during his discourse that Lord Krishna reveals his identity as the Supreme Being and blesses Arjuna with a glimpse of His Divine form. He says that one may achieve complete glory of the self through the three Yogas (Bhakthi Yoga, Karma Yoga and Jnana Yoga) of meditation and devotion. The fundamental goal of each of these Yogas is the same - to achieve the Divine Essence(Brahman) and to escape from the cycle of reincarnation.

The Bhagavad Gita, through the words of Lord Krishan, preaches three stages to the achievement of Self - Brahman, Parmatma (Supreme Soul), Bhagavan (God Himself).

The Gita has been translated into hundreds of languages worldwide and is a masterpiece of chapters that form part of the 700 verse epic Mahabharata.

 14 Sep 2008 01:30:47 pm

Nadigar Sangam that laid a ban on Tamil and Telugu actress Flora aka Asaha Saini revoked it on wednesday. The actress was earlier arrested for forging documents for obtaining US visa and subsequently banned by Nadigar Sangham from acting in Tamil films.

Speaking at a press conference, the screen actress said that she has comeout clean of the controversy.

After that I was granted bail, I pleaded my innocence through my lawyers in the court. They found I was not guilty after police gave a clean chit and returned my passport and allowed me to travel anywhere outside India except the US". She revealed.

Though the police verification is still going on, the actress claims that she was a victim of circumstances and has been used as bait in the whole issue. "I was only a material witness in the case as there was no case of forgery against me with my passport and related documents submitted by me to the US Consulate." Elaborating further she said, "I am more known as a Tollywood actress. That being the case, the Telugu Association never banned me from acting in films after the unfortunate incident. On the other hand, it came to my notice that Nadigar Sangham has put a red card on me banning from acting in Tamil Films. I am happy that it has been revoked now," she says. The actress is backto work and is all excited about being roped in to perform a folk number in Rajini starrer bi-lingual Kuselan and Kathanayukudu.

Did she bag the item number in Kuselan, after the ban was lifted? Yeah. You can't call my dance in Kuselan as an item number. It is a beautiful folk number and I am not performing it along side of Rajinikant. It is a song in praise of Rajinikant after he becomes a superstar in films when his childhood buddy Pasupathy in Tamil and Jagapathy Babu in Telugu celebrate his success in movies," She said.
